Version rules

Version Rules apply to every playlist.

Version Rules: Shortest club version 5 minutes, Probably a radio edit under 4.5 minutes, a switch to offer a radio edit when it is the only version, a switch to include MP3 256 or AAC 256 from iTunes, and a switch for second-hand CDs from Discogs.
Version Rules.

Extended and Original mixes beat radio edits. A remix, dub, VIP, acapella, instrumental, live version or DJ edit (an intro edit, say) must match exactly, and a remix must be by the same remixer: “Embers (Lune Remix)” never matches someone else’s remix. A DJ edit you already own counts as the track it was cut from.

  • Shortest club version: a track with no version in its title, shorter than this, counts as an edit (5 minutes to start with).
  • Probably a radio edit under: playlist tracks this short, with no version in the title, are flagged so you can check them.
  • Offer a radio edit when it’s the only version: always flagged for you to review, never swapped in silently.

Best first: WAV, AIFF, FLAC or ALAC, MP3 320. MP3 and AAC under 256 never go in the plan.

Include MP3 256 or AAC 256 (iTunes): for a track with no WAV, AIFF, FLAC or MP3 320 download is on offer. Files you already own at 256 are kept either way, flagged for upgrade.

Use second-hand CDs from Discogs: only for tracks no store sells as a DJ-quality download. When it’s off, Discogs isn’t asked at all.
